DuBois, Pennsylvania is nestled among forests that provide a wealth of natural resources not only for outdoor recreation but also for businesses. Western Pennsylvania contains coal and natural gas as well as one of the largest areas of hardwood forests in the United States. The Allegheny National Forest is famous for its black cherry trees. The region also leads the world in the powdered metal industry. Local manufacturers use powdered metal technology, making parts from as small as bearings and bushings to as large as building the machines used by the industry. DuBois serves as the region's transportation hub; with easy access to Interstate 80, Routes 219, 119, 322, and access to rail freight lines. The DuBois Regional Airport is a designated Foreign Trade Zone, which can eliminate or reduce the tariff and duties U.S. businesses pay on imports and exports. These transportation assets enable local manufacturers to ship their products worldwide-from hardwood lumber and logs, glass and plastic containers, machinery, machined parts, to locomotives and rail cars used in the mining industry.
Clearfield County Economic Development Corporation and Jefferson County Department of Development serve our area for economic development, site selection, business relocation, grants, loans, and tax incentives, such as Keystone Opportunity Zones-available tax-free property. The office of North Central Regional Planning & Development Commission provides the above services as well as coordinating transportation projects, and expertise in import/export relationships with other countries. These offices are valuable resources for business start up, retention, expansion, and business relocation.
One of our area's best resources is its people. The area's workforce is productive and has a high work ethic. Business owners and their employees benefit from the training and education opportunities available here. See Area Schools for the variety of career, technology, continuing education and academic courses available from the institutions in our area. Coordination for workforce development is handled locally through DuBois Career Link and regionally through the North Central Workforce Investment Board at North Central Regional Planning & Development Commission.
