• Lighting Control Technician

Do you like to work with Laptops, Tablets & Mobile Devices?

Would you be interested in learning to setup Device Networks that communicate not only via IP over Ethernet or Wifi, but also Zigbee, Bluetooth, and a variety of other communication protocols such as DMX, DALI, CAN, BACnet & ASCII?

Are you interested in a position that allows you to work very independently, and travel to many different locations across the Mid-Atlantic, Northeast and Great Lakes regions of the US?

…if so, West PA Systems is looking to hire someone like you!

West PA Systems is an Electrical Contracting & Technical Services company, and our business is growing rapidly, so we are looking to add to our team of Lighting Control Technicians!

Our Lighting Control Technicians program, commission and service Lighting Control Systems for the purposes of Energy Management, Architectural Aesthetics and Production/Presentation.  Our Technicians travel throughout PA, OH, WV, VA, NJ and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic, Great Lakes and Northeast regions.

This work involves tools such as Laptops, iPads/Tablets, Smart Phones, and some basic electrical hand-tools (i.e. various screwdrivers, wire-strippers/cutters/crimpers, multi-meters, etc).  We utilize specialty software and hardware to commission, program and service lighting control systems for many different applications and in many different types of buildings and sites.  These systems utilize various forms of wired and wireless network communication, and include technologies that manually control interior lighting ON/OFF/DIM, as well as sensors that monitor occupancy & ambient daylight levels, and programmable controllers that allow for automatic control of lighting via time scheduled events and various types of ‘control logic’.  These systems are typically integrated with local IT networks, and can allow for integration with Building Automation Systems, allow for offsite/remote control of lighting and building systems, and more.  Here is a link to the primary system(s) that this employee will be required to learn in their first year: https://www.cooperlighting.com/global/brands/wavelinx.html

In this position, West PA Systems’ technicians generally assist medium-to-large scale Commercial Electrical Contractors on small, medium and large sized new construction and retrofit projects that include Commercial, Industrial, K-12, Higher Ed, Healthcare and many other building/site types, sizes and applications.

This is a highly independent role, as our technicians usually operate alone or with very limited supervision.  Therefore it is essential that the employee is a ‘self-starter’ who can manage their own time, interact with many different kinds of individuals in construction environments and many other types of situations, and be held responsible for the completion of tasks as assigned upon a deadline, as well as completing daily/summary site reports as needed.   Applicants should understand that travel may require up to 3-4 overnights per week, depending upon the needs of our clients.  Generally speaking, our ‘high-travel’ season peaks from July-through-September each year, though that is always subject to change.

Our ideal candidate has a strong proficiency with PC-based computers, tablets and other mobile technology, and is familiar with networking in general.  Knowledge of basic electrical concepts, and the ability to work with basic electrical hand-tools is also preffered, but this is an entry level position and we are looking to provide training to the right candidate.  This position will include extensive ‘on-the-job’ training, but air-travel to attend manufacturer and industry specific certification/training courses will also likely be required from time-to-time.
